Six Potain tower cranes build high-rise in Ukraine

9/23/2014

A high-rise development in Ukraine is taking shape fast thanks to six Potain tower cranes. The cranes are working around-the-clock at heights of up to 92 m to build RC Green Island 2, a residential complex comprised of four 25-story towers in Kiev, the nation’s capital.

The cranes, all of which are 8 t capacity top-slewing models, are rented from Potain’s Ukranian dealer Hoisting Machines. Potain cranes were chosen for the project because of their reputation for reliability and consistent performance, as Sergey Mysnik, sales manager at Hoisting Machines, explains.

“This project needs efficient cranes with strong winches that will keep working day and night, so naturally Potain was the ideal choice,” he says. “We are confident in their capabilities and are proud to see another Kiev development rising with the help of our cranes.”

The first Potain crane at RC Green Island 2 was erected in December 2012. The rest followed at a rate of one per month with the final addition arriving in May 2013. All of the cranes will remain at the job site until construction is completed at the end of 2014.

The cranes are divided among the four towers with their reach allowing them to work on two towers each, minimizing construction time. As the cranes are working in close proximity to each other and with jib lengths from 33 m to 45 m, they are all equipped with Potain’s sophisticated Top Tracing anti-collision technology to minimize risk.

The Potain cranes are lifting a wide range of construction materials including formwork, rebar, structural components, scaffolding and façade materials.

The six Potain cranes at the job site include two MDT 178s and four MC 175 Bs. Potain’s MC 175 B can lift 1.4 t at its maximum outreach of 60 m. The crane is well-established in the Potain range and favored at high-rise developments. The MDT 178 is a topless city crane that also offers a maximum jib length of 60 m.

Green Island 2, so named because it is situated next to the largest park in Kiev, is being developed by Kiev-based Kovalska Industrial and Construction Group. The project will comprise 944 apartments, a two-story underground parking garage and a seven-story office.

Established in 2006, Hoisting Machines is one of Ukraine’s leading crane sales and rental companies.
