Klema’s latest purchase was signed for on a beer mat.
German crane rental company Klema steadily expanded its lineup of Grove cranes throughout 2013, adding five all-terrain cranes to its fleet. Its latest purchase of a GMK4080-1 will go down as one of the most memorable Grove crane purchases – the agreement was signed on a beer mat.
The unique deal reflects the close partnership between Klema and Manitowoc, Wolfgang Klenner, CEO of Klema explained.
“We have found the perfect partner in Manitowoc that allows us to be flexible and do real business with friends,” he said. “The company reacts to our suggestions and consistently meets our requirements, giving our business the flexibility to grow. During a recent dinner meeting it became clear that the GMK4080-1 would be ideal for our expanding fleet – so we decided on it right there and then.”
Klema’s purchases in 2013 ranged from an 80 t capacity four-axle model to the 400 t capacity GMK6400, which is Grove’s newest crane. All five new cranes were ordered in quick succession, which made for a steady flow of new Grove cranes arriving to Klema’s yard in Munich.
The new GMK4080-1 joins the rest of Klema’s fleet working on a wide variety of construction sites across south Germany.
Klaus Kroeppel, VP sales central & eastern Europe at Manitowoc, echoed Klenner’s sentiments on the unique purchase of the GMK4080-1:
“This transaction may have taken place on a beer mat, but it symbolizes the mutual trust we share with our customers. The fact that these five cranes have been purchased in such close succession, highlights the instant impact these Grove cranes have made to Klema’s business.”
The full list of Grove cranes purchased by Klema in 2013 includes two GMK4100Ls, a GMK4080-1, a GMK5095 and a GMK6400. They join several other Grove cranes, ranging from the 40 t capacity TMC540 truck-mounted crane to the 300 t capacity GMK6300 all-terrain crane, which are already working in Klema’s Munich-based fleet.
The Grove GMK6400 is the strongest six-axle crane in the world. It offers a 60 m boom, a unique self-rigging capacity enhancement MegaWingLift attachment and a new single-engine concept that reduces weight and improves fuel efficiency.
Grove’s 100 t capacity GMK4100L is a compact four-axle crane with a 60 m main boom that does not require a special permit to travel on German highways. The GMK4080-1 is an 80 t capacity all-terrain crane with a 51 m boom. The two cranes were bought to replace older 70 t capacity cranes in Klema’s fleet.
The Grove GMK5095 is a 100 t capacity five-axle, all-terrain crane with a 60 m boom that can be extended to 83 m with a jib.
Established in 1965, Klema started with a 6 t capacity truck crane. Since then, the company has continually grown a fleet that offers capacities from 30 t to 500 t. Klema also offers dislocation machines, heavy transportation, industrial assemblies and planning services.
