First Grove GMK6400 arrives in Germany

1/27/2014 Wilhelmshaven, Germany

MSG Krandienst GmbH has taken delivery of the first Grove GMK6400 all-terrain crane to arrive in Germany. The 400 t capacity GMK6400, which is the strongest six-axle crane on the market, has been in near-constant use since its delivery in September last year.

MSG bought the Grove GMK6400 because its industry-leading capabilities and relatively compact size means it is a highly versatile unit that fits perfectly into congested city job sites and petrochemical plants, as Andreas Werner at Grove dealer KranAgentur Werner explains.

“We want to give customers the world’s most advanced equipment that enables them to complete a huge variety of jobs quickly and effectively,” he says. “Grove’s GMK6400 is the next step in six-axle crane technology. MSG’s new crane has proved itself at several projects already, and there is a long list of jobs lined up for it in the future.”

The GMK6400 was handed over to MSG at Grove’s facility in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Since then it has performed a variety of lifts at job sites across southern Germany including work at a petrochemical plant, erection of a wind turbine and a heavy lift at a nearby harbor.

The GMK6400 joins MSG’s 35-strong fleet of cranes, which already includes 10 Grove all-terrain cranes. MSG expects the GMK6400’s main activities to include heavy lifts at shipyards, refineries and power plants, as well as wind farm maintenance and construction.

Outside of Germany, GMK6400s are working in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, the U.S., Canada, Curacao, and as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

Grove’s GMK6400 earned Manitowoc the “Innovation Manufacturer” award from Europe’s leading lifting and transportation trade association, the European Association of Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes. The GMK6400 features a range of unique design elements including a single engine concept, self-rigging MegaWingLift and the MegaDrive hydrostatic drive system. It offers a 60 m main boom.

Founded in 2003, KranAgentur Werner (www.kranagentur.de) has a customer base of more than 500 companies and operates out of offices in Zweibrücken and Berlin.

Over its 20-year history MSG has established itself as a leading supplier of mobile across the German region of Baden. Its fleet covers the wide range of capacities up to 750 t.
