S. J. Contracts deploys Potain cranes at €25 million project in India

10/23/2013 Pune, India

Leading Indian construction company S. J. Contracts Pvt Ltd. is relying on three Potain tower cranes to build nine residential towers at the Amanora Future Towers project in Pune, India. The 5 t capacity, top-slewing cranes are working non-stop for the next two years to complete the iconic towers, which range from 20 to 30 stories tall.

The three MCi 85 A tower cranes are owned by S. J. Contracts. The Potain cranes’ reliability, combined with Manitowoc Crane Care’s local support service, will ensure this huge project is a success, as Saurabh Jangle, director at S.J. Contracts, explains:

“This is the biggest project we have ever undertaken and so we need the best equipment available,” he says. “To build nine towers using just three cranes means they need to perform reliably day in, day out. We are confident that our Potain tower cranes, coupled with Manitowoc Crane Care’s excellent and prompt service, will get the job done on time and on budget.”

The MCi 85 As were assembled at the site in September 2012 and will remain there until construction is completed in 2014. The cranes are lifting a variety of general construction materials but are predominantly used to lift rebar and pour concrete.

Each crane is responsible for three buildings so they are rigged with full 50 m jibs and are strategically positioned to offer complete coverage of the 7,000 m2 job site. Two of the cranes are internal climbing units while the third is mounted externally. They are currently operating at heights of 50 m but will eventually reach 110 m.

Located in Hadapsar in Pune, western India, Amanora Future Towers will be a 180,000 m2 vertical city based on a European development concept. The hexagonal buildings will include residences, shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The three phase project will create more than 3,000 new luxury homes.

The MCi 85 A is the most popular Potain tower crane in India, and is built at the Manitowoc facility in Pune. It is designed for easy assembly and its strong load chart makes it a very versatile crane. With a 25 m (82 ft) jib, the crane can lift 3 t (3.3 USt) at jib end and with a full 50 m (164 ft) jib it can lift 1.3 t (1.43 USt) at jib end.

Established in 1988, S. J. Contracts Pvt Ltd. is a leading construction contractor that specializes in residential, commercial and industrial projects across India. The company employs 450 people and is based in Pune.
