Manitowoc has selected two of its most popular Potain self-erecting cranes to showcase at bauma 2013. Among the cranes on show will be the Igo T 85 A from the telescoping range of cranes, plus the Igo 36 from the regular range. Both are especially popular in Germany and each offers best-in-class features.
Potain Igo T 85 A
The Igo T 85 A is from Potain’s larger range of cranes suited to small to medium-sized construction sites. It includes a telescoping lattice mast that allows it to vary its working height, growing taller as construction advances upward.
The crane is an uprated version of the Igo T 85, with new slewing and hoisting mechanisms; an extra 150 kg of lift ability across the load chart, plus an extra 3 m of working height. Maximum capacity for the Igo T 85 A is 6 t, while its working height can be adjusted between 20 m and 38 m when the jib is horizontal. Jib length is 45 m and it can lift 1.4 t at its tip.
Vincent Milan, regional senior product manager for self-erecting cranes at Manitowoc, said the
Igo T 85 A received enthusiastic feedback for its capabilities from German operators.
“Last year, we arranged an extensive field survey of the crane’s performance, asking operators to rate many of its features,” he said. “Overall, the operators gave the crane ‘two thumbs up’ with an approval rating of over 80 percent.”
The jib can be luffed upwards from the horizontal position, offering a maximum working height of 51 m when the crane has all three of its removable mast sections in place. Transporting the crane is easy, as the crane offers exceptional ground clearance, while erecting it on site can be done twice as fast as was possible with Potain’s old GTMR 346.
Productivity is improved with the updated slewing mechanism, with the crane able to hoist a 2 t load around 35 percent faster than the other leading crane in this capacity class.
Potain Igo 36
Joining the Igo T 85 A on the Manitowoc stand is another of Potain’s bestsellers, the Igo 36. One of the reasons for the crane’s success is the high level of specification included in the crane’s standard design. The slewing, hoisting and trolleying mechanisms all have special inverters for closer control; radio remote control with lift data feedback comes with each crane; and the embedded Smartcom diagnostics system is included as standard.
Vincent Milan said the crane is well-established and has earned its “market-leader” reputation.
“We have patented much of the design of the Igo 36, and it remains a favorite of many customers,” he said. “They prefer the range of features it offers and also its proven reliability and performance which are contained in a simple design. In its transport mode, the crane is very compact and when it arrives on the job site, set-up is straightforward and highly automated.”
The Igo 36 has a maximum capacity of 4 t. Its 32 m jib can lift 1.1 t at its tip, while working height is 22 m.
