Grove reaches 100 sales of GMK6300L in two years

1/29/2013 Würzburg, Germany

Manitowoc’s mobile crane brand Grove is celebrating the sale of its 100th GMK6300L all-terrain crane. The crane, launched just over two years ago, has proved a real hit with customers around the world, with units now working on four continents.

The GMK6300L has a 300 t capacity and an 80 m boom, the longest in its class. It was first seen at the bauma 2010 trade show in Munich, Germany, and the first deliveries started later that year.

Philippe Cohet, executive vice president for Manitowoc Cranes, says the crane’s rugged design and versatility make it suitable for a huge variety of projects.

“It’s outstanding to sell a crane of this size at such a high rate — it’s a sign of its popularity,” he says. “A key to its success is that the crane helps companies grow by completing more projects and taking on bigger jobs. Its success is also a testament to the recent quality improvements carried out at our Wilhelmshaven plant, which the GMK6300L is the first crane to benefit from.”

From Oman to Latvia and Australia to the U.S., the GMK6300L is now part of rental fleets and product portfolios across the globe. Typical applications include lift work for high-rise buildings in downtown areas, tower crane erection, repair and construction work at industrial facilities and wind farm maintenance.

The 100th GMK6300L was sold to German crane and lifting company Firmengruppe Ziegler. It was delivered in December last year and has already completed its first job. A handover ceremony was held at the company’s headquarters in Würzburg in January to mark the occasion.

“We are delighted to add this impressive new machine to our fleet,” says Alex Gagarin, general manager at Ziegler. “It allows us to work on bigger projects in less time. We already have several jobs lined up for the crane and expect it will be very busy.”

Founded in 1997, Ziegler has grown to 60 employees and is part of AVS Systemlift AG, a partnership of companies in the crane and access business that have 90 branches spread across Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Romania. The GMK6300L joins the company’s large fleet of machinery, which includes 23 cranes.

GMK6300Ls around the world

Several factors make the GMK6300L a popular crane in a huge range of markets and industries. As well as its record-breaking reach and strength, customers note that its mobility and overall quality are major benefits.

To date, the GMK6300L has been sold to rental companies and direct users in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the UK and the U.S.

The GMK6300L is built at Manitowoc’s facility in Wilhelmshaven, northern Germany.
