GMK6300L is first Grove to join BKL’s huge fleet in Germany

One of the largest crane rental companies in Germany added the first Grove crane to its fleet. BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH took delivery of a GMK6300L in February this year and the 300 t capacity crane completed its first lift at the bauma trade show, erecting a 62 m tall Potain tower crane.
BKL owns a fleet of more than 300 cranes, including top-slewingtower cranes and self-erecting tower cranes from Potain.. The company decided to apt;dd the GMK6300L after a visit to Grove’s factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, explained Robert Popp, technical manager at BKL.
“Grove has made considerable investments at its plant to improve every area of its operation – and the results are clear to see,” he says. “The GMK6300L is a unique machine that can perform lifts at a height of 80 m. This saves us a lot of time, and our customer’s money, as we don’t need a jib, even if we lift a load of 12 t at such a great height.”
The GMK6300L adds even more versatility and strength to BKL’s fleet, used at construction projects throughout Germany.
The new crane was put to work almost immediately, assisting with preparations for bauma. It erected a Potain MDT 248 tower crane, also owned by BKL, on Manitowoc’s outdoor stand at the event.
With its class-leading 80 m boom, the GMK6300L erected the tower crane on a 62 m mast without the need to rig a jib, saving time on site. The mobile crane completed the erection in just one day and installed the entire 65 m jib in a single lift.
The GMK6300L has a seven-section, full-power MEGAFORM boom with Twin-Lock pinning and can tackle jobs where similar cranes would need to rig a jib. It also features the patented, independent, six-axle MEGATRAK suspension system that enables it to navigate even the toughest job sites.
