Walker and Son Hauliers adds Grove GMK4080-1

6/14/2012

Walker and Son Hauliers in Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, UK, has added a Grove GMK4080-1 all-terrain crane to its growing rental fleet. The crane joins several other large Grove all-terrains in the company’s crane fleet.

Richard Walker, managing director at Walker and Sons, which operates across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, said the company’s positive experience with the Grove brand strongly influenced this latest purchase.

“We have a long history with Grove cranes and the staff at Manitowoc’s offices in the UK. We know the cranes well, and trust that they will live up to their reputation. And we know that Manitowoc will give us the support we need for the lifetime of the crane,” said Jessop. “We previously had the GMK4075, another Grove four-axle all-terrain crane, but the GMK4080-1 gives us more boom length. This will allow the crane to take on a wider range of jobs.”

The GMK4080-1 has an 80 t capacity and a 51 m, six-section boom. It also includes Manitowoc’s Megatrak independent suspension system for better on-site maneuvering. Other Grove cranes in the Walker and Son fleet include a GMK4100, GMK3055 and two GMK2035Es.

Since delivery in late March, the GMK4080-1 has been hard at work on variety of jobs, including general construction sites, power stations and coal mines.

Walker said the strength and mobility of the GMK4080-1, and the other Grove cranes in the company’s fleet, make them good choices for a wide range of jobsites.

“It doesn’t matter if we’re erecting steel beams, installing turbines in power stations or pulling rods on oil wells, we know we have a Grove crane with the right size and combination of features to get in, do the job quickly and get moving to the next site.”

Founded in 1954, Walker and Son Hauliers specialize in hauling, logistics, warehousing, machinery removal and crane hire. The company has 11 cranes in its rental fleet that operate from two locations in Nottinghamshire. Earlier this year, the company achieved Safecontractor accreditation for the fourth year in a row, highlighting its commitment to health and safety on site.
