Makro Engenharia buys 32 Manitowoc cranes

6/7/2012

Just as Manitowoc Cranes opens the doors to its first Latin American factory in Passo Fundo, Brazil, the first orders have been placed.

Makro Engenharia, a crane rental company based in Fortaleza, Brazil, placed the largest order from the factory to date, signing a deal for 32 Grove cranes with capacities ranging from 60 t to 300 t. The company finalized the order during the inauguration ceremony at Manitowoc's factory in Passo Fundo on March 31.

Of the 32 cranes the company purchased, 16 are Grove rough terrain cranes from the Passo Fundo factory. The other 16 are Grove all-terrain cranes.

David Rodrigues, commercial director from Makro, says that reliability and service are the top reasons to purchase Manitowoc cranes.

“We have many Manitowoc cranes in our rental fleet,” he says. “And we continue to invest with Manitowoc because these cranes continue to deliver the best dependability of any cranes in our fleet. Now, with a factory here in Brazil, we have even more reasons to purchase from Manitowoc as delivery times and product acquisition costs are even more attractive.”

Luciano Dias, vice president of sales at Manitowoc in Brazil, said Makro’s significant purchase underscores the fact that South America will be a significant area of growth for the company.

“All of Latin America is an important growth market for Manitowoc,” he says. “Our new factory here is a testament to our commitment to the region. We’ve had very positive feedback about the factory from our customers, and we anticipate many more orders over the coming months.”

Makro will rent the cranes to companies for a variety of applications, including mining and construction, renewable energy (wind and thermal), and oil and gas projects.

Some of the cranes will be used by Makro Wind, a division of Makro that specializes in constructing and operating wind power developments. The company already runs and maintains several wind farms throughout the region.
