Mammoet adds two new Grove cranes to UK fleet

4/11/2011 United Kingdom

Global lifting specialist, Mammoet, recently purchased two new Grove cranes for its regional UK subsidiary. The Grove GCK3045 compact crane and GMK6300L six-axle all-terrain crane add more capacity and capability to the company’s UK crane fleet.

The 45 t capacity Grove GCK3045 is a compact single-cab, boom-down crane. It is highly maneuverable and is well-suited for urban job sites and industrial facilities with limited work space.

The 300 t capacity GMK6300L is a six-axle crane that has an 80 m boom — the longest in the six-axle category. It allows users to reach further without the need for a jib. The crane’s exceptional reach makes it ideal for tasks such as tower crane erection, placing air conditioning units or elevator equipment, and chimney work.

Darren Adams, managing director of Mammoet UK, said the company was happy to add more Grove mobile cranes to its fleet.

“We are delighted to bring the first of these cranes to the UK,” he said. “We have used Grove cranes for years, and their reliability is second to none. As we expand, we must ensure we have the best tools for the job. These two cranes extend the versatility of our range and enable us to meet almost any lifting requirement, big or small.”

The two latest additions are part of a major expansion at Mammoet’s UK operations. Both cranes will be available across the country.

Mammoet’s decision to add the Grove cranes was based on both the capabilities of the new cranes and the reliability of other Grove cranes in the company’s 120-crane UK fleet.

The GCK3045 arrived in the UK in late 2010 at the Mammoet facility in Teeside, north east England. Mammoet has a lot of experience with single-cab, boom down cranes, but selected Grove after using the GCK3045 for a trial period at its global headquarters in the Netherlands.

The GCK3045 has a 34 m boom with an innovative “boom down” design, so the boom is stored at a negative angle for travel, optimizing the transport height of the vehicle and allowing it to drive into very confined spaces. The crane also has variable outrigger positioning, a first among city cranes in Europe, allowing it more flexibility to set up in restricted spaces.

The GMK6300L will arrive in the UK in the next few weeks. Like the GCK3045, the GMK6300L has many outrigger options. With five positions available, it offers the most of any other crane in this class.

Mammoet is one of the world’s largest crane rental companies with offices around the world. In the UK, it operates from five regional centers and employs over 150 staff.
